Facebook launch Open Graph Meta Tags in 2010. It works when you are going to share the link of post or page on Facebook. 

Before introducing the OGT, the only link would show when someone shares the website’s link. But now by adding open graph meta tags, we can customize our link, such as the image, title and link’s descriptions.

In this post, I am trying to show you step by step, how to add open graph meta tags on the page or post.

Open Graph Meta Tags is a protocol that allows how the link of your website will show on Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

We can customize our link’s title, description and image. But we should add relevant title, description and image.

We can easily set how the link will show on Facebook by using open graph meta tags. It is an important part of SEO. This article is one kind of On Page SEO Tutorial.

Open Graph Tags method is vital SEO tips and tricks. If you don’t use on your website that will be SEO errors and if you use an open graph tags that is great for your SEO score and your relevant keyword can top rank for the reason.

If we set OGT in our webpage or post, the unrelated image won’t show when we will share our post on Facebook and other social media.

How To Use Open Grap Tags

The using open graph tag is quite easy, not so difficult. We can add it by the two ways. One is for the static website and another one is for WordPress website. But adding to static website is much difficult than WordPress website.

First, I want to show you how to add OGT on a static website.

In HTML code, we have to go to the meta description. You can find it at the top of the code.

Now you have to fill up all the og meta properties. But the main og properties are image, title and descriptions. In the image, all properties are marked by a red colour.

OGT Add On WordPress Website

In the case of WordPress website, first, we need one SEO plugin. It can be Yoast SEO, Rank Math and All in One SEO Pack, SEOPress and etc.

Step 1: Install and Activate SEO Plugin

Here, I have used Rank Math SEO plugin. You can use other SEO plugins, it actually depends on you. But the adding OGT procedure is similar.

To install Rank Math, go to WordPress dashboard and then go to the plugin. Now click the Add New plugin.

In plugin search option write the name of the plugin here I will write Rank Math. It shows on the top, click the install button beside the Rank Math.

After installing, click the Activate button. That’s it. Our plugin has been installed.

Step 2: Add Open Graph On Post

Log in to WordPress dashboard. Go to the post and click which post you want to add an open graph. Click the post edit option.

Now click the Rank Math option that is marked by a red colour.

Final Step : Add Image, Title and Description

Now click on the Edit Snippet button.

Now you will get an interface. On the top, click on the Social option.

Here, you will find three options that are Add Image, Title and Description. Add related image and write a relevant title and description that will be show when you will share this post on Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

Open Graph is important for SEO. Because when you will share your post or page on Facebook and other social media, it looks better than the only link. It is more interactive and visitors can get more information about the post and finally they click the link to visit your post.
